5 cheap ways to add to your CV while you’re travelling

1

Going travelling? In between partying and sightseeing selfies, there are plenty of ways to add value to your CV without shelling out

1. Study abroad

Studying abroad, even briefly, is an awesome way to see the non-touristy side of a new country whilst adding valuable international study experience to your resume. Be careful to check if you’re applicable though – many are only open to current students or recent graduates. Sob.

2. Get volunteering

According to a recent survey by TimeBank, 73% of employers would employ a candidate with volunteer experience over one without, so it really pays to factor in some volunteering on your travels. Sites like Workaway.info and Freevolunteering.net can put you in touch with organisations and individuals looking for volunteers around the world.

3. Learn a language

Learning a foreign language, even to a basic level, can really add something extra to your CV and is a brilliant way to fully immerse yourself in a new culture on your travels. A good hack is to learn a language in a place where living costs are lower – so instead of learning Spanish in Spain, head to Guatemala.

4. Get work experience

Working in a foreign country is a great way to make a bit of money to pay for your onward travels. The Erasmus+ scheme at university doesn’t just fund study abroad but you can also use the scheme up to one year after you’ve graduated to get a grant to work abroad in a European country too.

5. Teach

Whether you want a teaching career or not, teaching still adds loads of impressive skills to your CV, such as communication, teamwork skills and your ability to work in a foreign country. One of the easiest ways is to take a short TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) course, which will gives you the skills to teach english in language schools all around the world.

Kim Okran ISC in Brazil!

Kim Okran International Studies Centre was in Brazil to hold two Info sessions in the Northern part of the country. The Info Sessions talked about study & work in Canada, as well as Immigration & study. These topics have been very popular among Brazilians and other nationalities due to recent changes in the immigration law and temporary permanency in the country. The new rules are giving more opportunities for those who want to have a post secondary education in Canada and combine it with a work experience.

Beside this fact, two other reasons are attracting Brazilians’ attention. First, students are looking for a work experience to build their savings in Canada and later convert this money into Real when go back to Brazil. Also, they want to have a relevant work experience and improvement of their English skills, as more and more employers in the country are strongly requiring this asset.
Second reason is that Canada is still among other countries, the cheapest one to invest in an international experience, as well as the cheapest cost of leaving.
Kim Okran assists not only students that are currently in Vancouver or Toronto, but also the students in Brazil. All the process of admissions in the ESL School or Post Secondary Institution have the support of our Brazilian counselor, as well as visa process by our Visa Consultant.
Thank you for all the students that attended those Info Session in Brazil!
If you want to know more information about how to study and work in Canada, send an email to luciana@kimokran.ca

You must go Chill winston in Gastown

Gas-Town

Gas-town is one of Vancouver’s oldest, and most architecturally interesting neighborhood.

It has 100 year old, large brick buildings (especially Water Street) and a tonne of fantastic shops, cafe’s, and restaurants. Drinking in Gas-town is always an options if it`s atmosphere you after.

I recommend “Tasting Flight,” at Chill Winston Bar. 3 Alexander St, Vancouver, BC V6A 1B2

Choose any 3, 8oz draught beers.

Try these beers:

  • Main Street Pilsner
  • Four Winds IPA
  • Fuggles & Warlock Personasbeer gastown

Gastown

How to find share house ?

How to find share house

Step 1. Use search engines like google, yahoo or baidu to look for share houses in Vancouver.

Type “Vancouver Share House,” or “rooms for rent in Vancouver.”

Or…Use local billboards

Vancouver craigslist – housing

 http://vancouver.craigslist.ca/

padmapper

http://www.padmapper.com/search/apartments/British-Columbia/Vancouver/

Step 2. Contact the landlord

In Canada its ok to email, or contact the landlord directly. Very often the owner of the house (not an agency) will rent their room to you.

Step 3.  Come and see share house

Just go and look! Be careful if you go alone at night.

Step 4. Pay Deposit if you like the room.

Important Note:

In Canada you do NOT have to pay for a “take over fee,” or more than half a months deposit.

Be careful of people preying on international students.

Enjoy your share life 😉

Hello,

I’m interested in seeing the room you have advertised on Craigslist. I’m a Japanese female /male looking for a nice place to live.

Currently, I am a student studying downtown.(ここはI am working downtown にもかえられますね)

May I come over on Tuesday to see the room?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you,

Travel Check list. You will never forget items for your carry-on anymore!

0d97e434d40477e5da4d9e530a8731ca

How exciting is traveling?

Yeah, can be so exciting that you can forget basic stuff to bring in your carry-on luggage thinking only about your large baggage. Carry-ons are the last bags that we pay attention too, for that reason it can be very easy to forget some essential items. Thinking in everybody that is returning from vacation or going to a short trip we made this post to share this simple check list that can be very useful to avoid stress and anxiety while packing. You can also add (in the bottom right) some items that you cannot find on the list. Tell us later how useful it was for you!!

Clubbing in Vancouver

club4

3 downtown nightclubs I recommend :

● Venue – is between a concert hall and nightclub, and often has large live

shows. Venue has A two-level, 500 person space and one of the Vancouver’s

best sound systems and light shows.

club1

● Caprice – is a large dance club on Granville street. It often has hip-hop and

caters mostly to a young clientele.

Famous DJ’s from around the world often come to these night clubs.

club3

● Aura - is much quieter than Venue, and it has a beautiful interior with pink

and purple lighting. It’s something between a nightclub and a lounge.

Don’t miss the chance to see Madonna live in concert at Rogers Arena!

Pop music singer Madonna was born in Bay City, Michigan on August 16, 1958.

In 1981, she went solo as a pop singer and became a sensation on the then male-

dominated ’80s music scene.

By 1991, she had achieved 21 Top 10 hits in the United States and

sold more than 70 million albums internationally. In January 2008,

she was named the world’s wealthiest female musician by Forbes magazine.
